About This Webinar

SafeBAE is leading the nation in evidence-based dating violence prevention and response programs, helping schools to be compliant with Title IX and healthy relationship requirements. This presentation will introduce SafeBAE’s 360° Schools model, an innovative and unparalleled approach to enlisting all school stakeholders in preventing and responding to relationship abuse and harassment among secondary students, through a mental health lens.

This collective of resources is a direct response to the recent CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey Report connecting the crisis-level increases in suicidal ideation and sexual violence among teens. This multi-pronged model empowers students as culture change leaders through peer-to-peer education training, while also providing staff training, cross curricular healthy relationship curriculum, bystander intervention resources, school policy reform, alternative justice and resources to reduce recidivism among respondents, and Title IX investigation guidance.

In this 2024 Share My Lesson Virtual Conference session, participants will learn about the collective of resources that make up this model, review information and key findings gathered from partner schools in rural and urban settings (soon to be published by researchers from Brown University), and gain insight into the gradual integration of this innovative model to meet individual school needs.

Executive Director, SafeBAE

Shael Norris is the Founding Executive Director of SafeBAE, the only US national survivor-founded, youth-led organization working to prevent sexual violence among teens. She has dedicated her career to ending sexual violence and empowering youth activism. As a young activist herself, she was a founding staffer of V-Day, overseeing all benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues" on college campuses and communities, across the world from 1999-2016. It was the impact of the significant presence of V-Day on college campuses that led to her creation of the "Campus Accountability Project" (in 2007) calling for improved prevention and response to sexual violence on college campuses. It was this higher education prevention work, that led her to advocate for the creation of youth-led prevention programming among secondary students. In 2014, she began to seek funding and youth partners to establish SafeBAE, culminating in its creation in 2015, in partnership with Daisy and Charlie Coleman, Ella Fairon, and Jada Smith.  Her research (in partnership with Dr. Orchowski at Brown University) regarding the efficacy of SafeBAE's programs awaits spring publication in the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse.
