About This Webinar

Ahead of poetry month, learn about novels-in-verse! This is a versatile, highly accessible, and engaging form of a novel. These books can be devoured in a few hours or a few days—making them a great confidence booster for struggling or reluctant readers. Importantly, it is a form that can convey emotional complexity, making it a suitable selection for advanced readers, too. Given that novels-in-verse are often high interest, low readability, the right novel-in-verse can be a great whole-class read.

In this 2024 Share My Lesson Virtual Conference session, hear several authors in conversation about their latest middle-grade novel-in-verse—their themes, their style, and how they see their work being used in classrooms. Join Coretta Scott King Honor Award-Winner Sharon G. Flake (Once in a Blue Moon), Asian/Pacific American Library Association Honor Award-Winner Mae Respicio (Isabel In Bloom) and the Poet Laureate of Rhode Island, Tina Cane (Alma Presses Play) for a conversation with Kit Ballenger, a youth services librarian and literary consultant.

Discover novels-in-verse in this panel with award-winning authors and poets!
