Using Inquiry to Fortify Civic Education

About This Webinar

The Center for Civic Education lifts up inquiry as the primary mode of instruction to drive the most equitable practices in the social studies classroom. Civic education is not confined to the pages of a curriculum, but rather unfolds in the dynamic spaces where students are engaged in making real-world connections through discovery, exploration, and high-level questioning.

In this 2024 Share My Lesson Virtual Conference session participants will discover ways to encourage student-driven questions that lead to constitutional investigations. Participants will explore strategies for students to experience democratic principles and processes firsthand, engage in civil dialogue, and channel their new knowledge, skills, and dispositions toward informed engagement with the world around them.

Participants will:

  • Examine the Center’s high-quality instructional materials rooted in inquiry.
  • Discover ways to facilitate student-centered learning through activities which ask the young scholars to engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate.
  • Explore strategies to incorporate democratic experiences and informed engagement opportunities into your social studies classroom.
